Using REGEX in WPBan
Fix4RSO:
I was using the '*' in a domain like the following example:
*forumprofi*
But I think it may still be slipping by. Or, it is possible that the spam-bot
is "faking" the domain and WPBan might miss it, but I am not to sure ...
I do not want to use the '*.de' form as you have as in an example in the
sidebar for the plugin. That would stop all from Germany, and I have some
folks that comment from there ...
Any ideas why I cannot catch the buggers? :)
WP_Ver = 2.0.5
WP_Theme = Kubrik (some minor tweaks)
BLOG_URL = http://Fix4RSO.com
Plugin_Name = WP Ban
Possible_Plugin_Conflict = Akismet, maybe, doubt it though ...
Ttech:
It should work. If nothing else, you can use htaccess. :) But it maybe the bot is faking the name. Do you have Akismet?
Fix4RSO:
I do have Akismet - it is sucking canal-water! I came to WP Ban 'cause I just want the bot to
get denied, not sent to the "spam queue". I already have a complaint in with the Akismet folks
because my own posts are being marked as spam -- _on my own blog_ !!! :)
I really didn't want to move to SK2. I wanted the simple ban feature and that was it. Hmmm...
I know it seems odd that the '*' is not working, but there must be something else goin' on I
have not pinned down as yet.
Well, thanks for taking the time to reply.
Ttech:
If you want I can get you the htaccess code just tell me what the spam bot is using like IP or site. :) and I will try to see what is going on with the plugin.
Fix4RSO:
Here's a couple that I have already done the '*' to the root of the domain, as well
as put the IP in there - for extra special double secret probation! :)
bloggermania.de/ | IP: 85.219.165.44
treatment-cellulite.net/ | IP: 124.177.2.223
forumprofi3.de/ | IP: 66.175.117.19
board-z.de/ | IP: 213.172.48.80
I keep everything that I have added to WPBan in a separate TextPad file, just to
keep track. :) Good thing too, since you asked for a few!
These bots always change IPs, so, I know using the full 4-octets is a waste. I'm
not sure where all my commenters will come from, so using the 192.168.12.* or
whatever might nuke too many folks ... not too nice if I did that to my commenters.
I had thought of editing my htaccess file. It is an easy process (i'm in software
quality engineering on enterprise systems and stuff, so, i've edited htaccess and
tomcat config stuff - no fear there) and I can do that too. But, these wiley bot
buggers are doing a few new things I think may not always work ... not sure ...
Hey, again, thanks for keeping track and trying to help! :)
