All Good Things Must Come To An End

As you all know, I have been doing WordPress plugins and supporting it for the past 6 years. These 6 years of my life, I have been through my polytechnic education, my national service as well as my university education.

I just graduated from university in December 2009 and have been looking for full-time jobs. I am offered a full-time job and will be starting work on 1st February 2010.

I regret to say that I am NOT ABLE to provide support for my plugins anymore due to my full-time job commitment. I will leave this forum open and let the community help one another.

However, I WILL still update my plugins whenever I can and you still can report bugs to me via email and I will try to fix it.

another great plugin, thanks Gamerz
« on: 04 February 2007, 19:39 »
Thanks again for another great plugin Gamerz, I've been hacking away at it all night and playing with my new ("old") cellphone to see what it's like.

So far I've added the following:
   - single file integration for wap aliases (no more wp-wap-comments.php)
   - dropped to WML 1.1 for older (1999-2003 phones)
   - tighter line formatting/grouping (<p> -> <br>)
   - optional post category/author listing for space
   - previous/next modified for relative URLs
   - comments link moved to below post, instead of  above content

And I figured out a super easy way to make wap work on any cpanel website using either
http://wap.websitename.com or http://websitename.com/wap/
(both will work)

I've also ripped out the html to flat text converter that WP uses and built my old. Works pretty well and can leave attributes like bold, italics, underline and links in place in the text which even WML 1.1 supports.

Still working out a few kinks and I want to make all external links in text pass through google's wap proxy.

ps. By the way, anyone who has a cellphone that can run "Opera Mini" I HIGHLY recommend it.
http://operamini.com  <- go there with your cellphone and it will help you install it
or see a demo here

Yeah it's pure Java and some amazing programming.
Shows you virtually any web page on a mobile in much better quality than any internal browser the phone/pda might have.

Opera Mini can read any web format and translates it to the mobile device's abilities (both wml & hmtl). It uses a proxy server if necessary to do the extra processing/conversion. It has much better fonts and menus that any phone minibrowser I have seen.

On a similar note, I was thinking of giving wp-wap a template ability or at least the ability to switch between wap 1.1 or the new .mobi xhtml standard based on the device's abilities. I was inspired by the very clean interface on http://wapedia.mobi which looks great even on my older phone.

oh I see, thanks for enlightening me. Sure sure, go ahead and modify, just send it to me when you are done and add your name in the readme =)

I almost wanted to give up this plugin because not many ppl uses it nowadays as handphones can view HTML

This is true but mobile devices still have special needs like low/no graphics and text formating. If we make it work with the new .mobi standard you could re-lauch it as "wp-mobi" :)

There are still alot of cellphones out there that work alot better with WAP/WML than html.

i must go study what is mobi, lost touch with the world of IT. LOL i agree with that, most pages are not even meant to be displayed on the phone because they are simply to big and GPRS charges is by data transfered. lol

Well you didn't lose touch with .mobi because it only became available late last year ;)

So your timing is perfect (as is mine, I just started researching it).

I think they are charging too much for .mobi but maybe after the initial rush GoDaddy and others will discount it a bit.

.mobi group promises to enforce a certain "standard" on the domains but I kinda doubt they can or even will make an effort.

You can read much more about it and see demos here:
http://dev.mobi/

ps. do you have any idea why the forum takes me back to the thread list instead of the message I just posted after I save? That behavior doesn't seem quite right. Strangely after I modify a post, it does work correctly and takes me back to the message, but not right after I post a brand new message in a thread.

What I love about wp-wap is how it takes all the excess garbage out of formatting, and makes it just the content. Perfect for any cell phone, esp since my site is graphics intensive, and css layout intensive. Now will _ck_' s mod make it work with my permalink structure (/%category%/%postname%)?
