All Good Things Must Come To An End

As you all know, I have been doing WordPress plugins and supporting it for the past 6 years. These 6 years of my life, I have been through my polytechnic education, my national service as well as my university education.

I just graduated from university in December 2009 and have been looking for full-time jobs. I am offered a full-time job and will be starting work on 1st February 2010.

I regret to say that I am NOT ABLE to provide support for my plugins anymore due to my full-time job commitment. I will leave this forum open and let the community help one another.

However, I WILL still update my plugins whenever I can and you still can report bugs to me via email and I will try to fix it.

Exclude bots
« on: 23 March 2007, 03:48 »
On my site on the left sidebar I have the most viewed posts function being called.  There is a bot that I think is from yahoo, or that is what the WHOIS tells me that is hitting one post all the time driving it's count way up.  The IP address is 74.6.74.164 and it has hit the one post 113 times in the last week or two.  All the other posts are in the 30's and it looks funny and out of place.  You can check it out at http://www.mycampresources.com but what I am wondering is:

1. Is there a way to tell the views to exclude an ip address or to block all bots in my views all together
2. How do I reset the count on that on post so that all the posts are about the same count. (this is not a good solution but will work)

I was thinking about just blacklisting that one ip but someone told that by blocking one search bot from my site I could do more harm then good.  It is only that one IP and I get other yahoo bots that do not do any harm.

Thanks
Jeffrey Penner

I thought there was a "exclude bots" feature. I think I am thinking of Post-Ratings.

You can edit the cound by editing the p0st and changing the value in the post meta table. I think that should do it. I'm on my PDA (iPAQ) so its a bit hard to check right now. :)

Hope this helps..

Thanks, Got it.  Could you try to work a bots thing into this plugin, just a suggestion or thought.  So people do not need to change it or anyone else that experiences this problem every week or two, and it would give a more accurate views to what people are going to.  Just a thought.

Thanks for the great work and speedy response.

Yeah, I was right, I had a feeling it was for Post-Ratings.
I'll never forget the "Bots can Vote too" topic. :) LOL
