All Good Things Must Come To An End

As you all know, I have been doing WordPress plugins and supporting it for the past 6 years. These 6 years of my life, I have been through my polytechnic education, my national service as well as my university education.

I just graduated from university in December 2009 and have been looking for full-time jobs. I am offered a full-time job and will be starting work on 1st February 2010.

I regret to say that I am NOT ABLE to provide support for my plugins anymore due to my full-time job commitment. I will leave this forum open and let the community help one another.

However, I WILL still update my plugins whenever I can and you still can report bugs to me via email and I will try to fix it.

WP-PostViews doesn't work
« on: 21 November 2009, 16:06 »
Hi,
I run a blog (http://www.lesenfantsterribles.org) where I used this plugin but at some point the plugin has no longer work.

I don't activate any other plugin (except YARPP) but in every new post the views are always set to 0. And if I visited my Stats, I know that that post has lot of visits.

If I deactivate YARPP, any has changed.

This are the characteristics of my blog:
1.  WordPress Version: 2.8.5
2. Theme Name: MimbroPro (with lot of modifications)
3. Blog URL http://www.lesenfantsterribles.org
4. Problem Plugin Name And Version: WP-PostViews 1.50
5. PHP And MYSQL Version: PHP 5.2.11 - MySql 5.0.77
6. Possible Conflicting Plugins (Optional)

Does it happen on the default theme? Are you able to reproduce it on a fresh install of WP with PostViews and YARPP? I can't think of anything on why it will not work for you since it used to work.

Thank for your qick reply.

Now I'm setting up a fresh install on my computer, using MAMP.

But your plugin worked on my website until thursday. Then, magically, it never counts the post views anymore!

If it works before that and does not work after that, unlikely it is a plugin bug and that makes thing difficult to solve.

I activate the default theme, adding the code for show the views, but nothing has changed.

And, before that, I deactivated YARPP plugin too.

But the views for all new posts are set to 0.

I think I should deactivate WP-PostViews because have posts in my blog showing 0 views is a little boring...

If you have another help, I'm here to listen at it.

Thanks

Did you view on the post as only when you view the single post then it will be counted. I can't think of anything else.

I read a post twice from different computers and the views are always set to 0.

For example, if you look at this post:
http://www.lesenfantsterribles.org/distretto-nord/repubblicani-allattacco-contro-policing-board-sparatoria-al-confine-con-la-repubblica/2/
and click on "Post informations" behind the title, you'll see that the third voice is set to 0.

I can't undestand why I have this problem on my blog. Everything works fine until this week, when every count for new posts is set to 0.

I tried to deactivate all plugins except WP-PostViews and Post Information (used in the hidden div for diplaying every information on the post - like author, date, views, category etc), but nothing has change.

Could it be a problem with database?

Hmm I have no idea, database might be a possibility, but if you try do an uninstall of the plugin and install it again via WP-Admin -> Settings ->PostViews, Uninstall.

Excuse me for the delay in the answer.

If I uninstall your plugin, will I lose any data previously entered?

Yes, I have no other ideas to suggest to you beside that, because it is close to impossible to solve "used to work and now it does not" syndrome unless you can reproduce it because it maybe because of your WordPress or other plugins/themes installed. The plugin by itself will not change so that means the logic behind it will not change. So it might have been something else that make it not to work.

On the other hand you can try to install a fresh copy of WP with WP-PostViews in your server to see if it works.

I made another try: I deactivated every plugin in my Wordpress blog, leaving active only WP-PostViews.

I activated the Default theme, adding the code < ?php the_views(); ? > in single.php

So I don't have an plugin runninng except your, but the result is the same. The count is 0.

I don't know what I can do for use this plugin... I'll setup a new install of Wordpress, but if it doesn't work with default theme and only WP-Postviews active, do you think anything could change?

I can say 99% it will work because I just tested it and there is nothing wrong with the plugin, if 1% it does not work, give me access to the new install, I will debug on your site after my exams on the 3rd.

I made a new install but the plugin doesn't work.

As you can see here http://forum.lesenfantsterribles.org/wp/ the 2 posts have 0 views.

The database is the same of my previous blog (with another extension).

So I can think it is a problem with the database. But I don't know where to look at.

I notice that.
But if I refresh the page, the count doesn't change.

Very strange thing...

Is it because of your settings that set to count guest only in WP-Admin -> Settings -> PostViews

Yes, yu take the point.

But what about the problem on my real blog?

The settings are correct but I don't see any count growing...

Hi,
I can't believe, but now everything works fine again...

And, yes, it was a mine mistake (or maybe of the admin area).

Point blank it deletes my custom field "views" and I never look at it, because every time it has worked. But when I scrolled down the post page, I saw that the value was set to 0 and not to 1 as usually.
Now, if I write 1 in the custom field, everything works fine. Is there a way to set the value to 1, without write it every time?

It does create and set the field to 1 when the post gets created.
