Wordpress with standard Permalink struckture

bulletbrain:
I've just set up wordpress a couple of days ago and found your downloads plugin and it all worked using the default permalink option i.e. http://www.mysite.com/index.php?dl_id=2

Then I decided to setup my Customize Permalink Structure to use a nice custom /%postname%/ structure i.e. http://www.mysite.com/download/2/ but it just gives me the 404 page

So I tried to use the Date and name based /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/ option and it works fine, just like the default option.

Why would my custom option not work if all I've done is edited /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/ to be /%postname%/

I would greatly appreciate any help on this problem.

GaMerZ:
by right it will not effect at all, can u try to Update The Permalink Structure a few times?

bulletbrain:
This is what is confusing me as I've clicked the Update Permalink Structure button tons of times but no change for the /%postname%/ custom option.

However I select another option and click it twice and it works every time (just tried it again)

I even checked in the database that /%postname%/ was actually being saved - and it was.

GaMerZ:
I KNOW WHY, someone posted the problem before. It is because when you use just %postname%/ it matches the word /download/ and hence it thought download is a page name but actuallay it is not and hence the 404.

There is no solution for this so far except to change the permalink
